New Carolina – also known as SC’s Council on Competitiveness - is a public-private partnership working to increase per capita income in South Carolina. Through strong partnerships with organizations around the state, New Carolina’s number one goal to build clusters that will enhance the state’s competitiveness.   A cluster is a group of businesses in a certain region that focus on or service the same industry: Think Silicon Valley for computers, Napa Valley for wine and Detroit for automotive.

The New Carolina Advanced Security Technology Research Alliance (ASTRA) cluster brings together business leaders and technology professionals from the region to discuss ways to increase South Carolina’s competitiveness in one of the state’s fast-growing industry sectors.

With nearly all U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security agencies represented here in Charleston area, coupled with one of the nation's largest ocean ports and a growing medical research center, Charleston has become a hub of research & development, practical testing and pilot initiatives for a wide range of security solutions.  ASTRA established four focus groups, Economic Growth/Conferences & Marketing; Business and Engineering Excellence; Connected Information Assurance and Cyber Security Labs; and Learning, Training & Education to work toward achieving the cluster objectives.

The ASTRA team has prepared a survey that will provide data we need to accomplish our assigned mission and we are asking for your assistance.  We have constructed the survey to provide us the information we need.  In order to protect the privacy of the information you provide, the identity of the respondents will not be tracked.  Hopefully, this will enable you to provide candid and accurate responses. Please respond by close of business on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.
